Secure Shell, commonly known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote web server or to exchange information between a web server and a client. As the data exchanged by the two sides is protected, a 3rd party simply cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a favorite means of controlling a hosting account. The commands which could be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared server, for instance, the choices are limited as you simply won't have root access to the website hosting server, so you could just create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, import and export databases, and so forth. They're all actions which are carried out inside the shared hosting account and do not need a higher level of access. With a virtual or a dedicated server, you shall have the ability to set up server-side software or to restart the server or only a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, but if you don't employ a UNIX-like Operating System, there are a lot of apps for other OSs, that you can employ to connect to the remote web server as well.

SSH Telnet in Website Hosting

If the website hosting package which you’ve chosen throughout the signup procedure provides SSH access as standard, you will be able to activate this function with just a click in your Hepsia CP. In case you have selected a different plan, the SSH access feature may be added via the Upgrades menu and it will become available right away. All the information that you need to connect will be conveniently listed within the SSH section of the Control Panel - the hostname, the username and the port number. You could also set what password to use from the same spot and you'll be able to modify it at any time. All of the commands that are allowed are listed inside the Help articles which we have prepared for you, in addition to examples of the syntax that you must use. An additional advantage of allowing SSH access to your account is that you'll be able to upload files using an SFTP connection.

The latter could be updated anytime, when required. These login credentials are also required if you'd like to upload files through a secure connection and you wish to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service which we provide. A comprehensive list of the commands which you can carry out shall provide you with a better idea of what tasks you may perform in your account and each one is accompanied by several examples of the syntax.

When you buy a new VPS server from us, it shall feature full root access and you'll be able to connect to the server and to handle everything through an SSH console. Your hosting server shall be set up immediately after you order it and as soon as you get the Welcome email with the login details, you may connect through the server’s primary IP address and start working. Since the VPS is a software emulation of a dedicated server and is isolated from the other accounts inside the physical machine, there'll be no restrictions with regards to the commands which you can use. You'll have full root access, so that you may set up and run any application that can work on a Linux machine, manage files, folders and databases or start/stop/reboot the entire machine or any software running on it.
