Each registered domain has a minimum of two Name Server records which show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain address to the servers of a specific hosting company. That way, you've got both your site and your emails handled by the same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are lots of other records, for instance A and MX. The former reveals which server handles the website for a given Internet domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter reveals which server manages the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For instance, any time you type a domain in your web browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you will be directed to the servers of another provider if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having separate records for the website and the emails suggests that you could have your website and your e-mails with two different providers if you wish.

Custom MX and A Records in Website Hosting

If you have a website hosting account with our company and you would like to switch either your website or your e-mails to an alternative provider, it's going to take you literally just two clicks to do so. Our Hepsia Control Panel provides an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you will be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you wish to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the standard 2, it's not going to take more than a couple of clicks either to add them. You can also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a certain MX record will have. The propagation of any record that you modify or set up won't take more than a few hours and if required, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which reveals how long a record will remain active after it is changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Accessing and changing the A or MX records for each of your domain addresses or subdomains is incredibly easy if you purchase a semi-dedicated server plan from our company. The accounts are handled via our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which has a section devoted to the DNS records of your domains. The latter is going to be listed alphabetically and you may click on every one of them to see both the A and the MX records. Changing any record will be as easy as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even if you have never dealt with such matters before, you'll not encounter any difficulties if you choose to switch your site or emails to a different company while keeping the second service with our company. If required, you can also set up additional MX records and set a specific priority based on the recommendations of the new provider.
